since 1993.
Parent educators are trained in Building Strong Families,
Healthy Families America, Ages & Stages Questionnaires, and Parents as Teachers.
Families will receive a minimum of a monthly home visit, monthly newsletter, regular
developmental screenings for children under five, connections to community-based
play groups and pre-schools, tracking of immunizations, and referral to community
resources.
Physical well-being and motor development: Parent educators
will work with families to track immunizations and well-child visits, provide
families with nutrition education, and provide activities that develop fine and
gross motor skill development.

Be helpful but don't coach them on the way to
the field, rink, pool, gym or track or on the way back, at breakfast, and so on.
Teach them to enjoy the thrill of competition, to be "out there trying,"
to be working to improve their skills and attitudes.
Don't compare the
skill, courage, or attitudes of your children with other members of the team.
Explain that courage is not the absence of fear, but a means of doing something
in spite of fear or discomfort.
It's worth all the effort when you hear
your youngster say, "My parents really helped.

Program provides teenage parents the opportunity to complete their education,
work toward productive careers, receive comprehensive training in parenting skills

to help curb teenage pregnancy, Education for Parenting is offered well before
students become sexually active."
In terms of child abuse, more than
2,000,000 children are reported abused in the U.S. each year.
The team
was joined by Julie Currie and myself, teachers from Germantown Friends' School
in Philadelphia.
Our team's first objective was to put together a body
of information that would be a basic theoretical foundation for the building of
an Education for Parenting curriculum, envisioned for students in grades kindergarten
through 12.

Association (ASCA) Position Professional school counselors assume a leadership
role in the initiation, promotion and delivery of family/parenting education in
the schools, recognizing diverse family structures.
Trained group leaders
provide instruction, strategies, guidance, consultation and referral resources
to meet the parenting needs of the school community.
These programs can
be provided to students as a component of the academic, career and personal/social
guidance curriculum and to parents as a parenting workshop.
The goal of
the parent workshop is to improve parenting skills, problem-solving and decision-making
skills and to provide a "skill bank" of alternative coping skills.
Summary Research indicates that school-sponsored family/parenting education integrates
home and school life, providing families with a model of participation.

you like to get your kids to willingly cooperate?
We can get our kids
to cooperate and at the same time allow them to learn self discipline and develop
good decision making skills.
This is one skill that every parent should
have tattooed on the back of his or her hand as a constant reminder.
Giving
children choices is a very effective way to enlist their cooperation because children
love having the privilege of choice.
It takes the pressure out of your
request, and allows a child to feel in control.
For example, a parent
might say, "Either eat your peas or go to your room" but when the child
gets up off his chair, the parent yells, "Sit down and eat your dinner, young
man!"

on the development of folkbiology and were divided into two batteries based on
the hypothesized distinction of (1) general knowledge consistent with the conceptual
repertoire of normally developing preschool children (the T1/T2-Neutral Animal

6 and 12 which require conceptual change for their construction.
