Not everyone is quick to learn the lesson of the importance of listening.

While it's true that the higher you go, the less you are required to listen to others, it's also true that your need for good listening skills increases.

If you're tired or facing difficult circumstances, remember that to remain an effective listener, you have to dig up more energy, concentrate, and stay focused.

You may not really be listening to what they have to say.

They argued continually, and she was driving him so nuts that he had already hired an attorney and was preparing to sue her.

Recently, I was involved in a conflict situation where, after many convoluted conversations, much spreading of misinformation and great frustration, the focus settled on who was right.

"You're not listening to me," came up often in the many conversations during this conflict.

I have been in plenty of meetings where confrontation was the goal and each participant used psychological or physical (body language) tactics to strategically move the discussion to score points and win the confrontational game.

What makes toughies feel proud is they think they have convinced everyone they are right.

One of the best ways to improve communication and break away from the game of winning is to develop effective listening skills.

Listening and Speaking are used far more than any other single language skills in normal daily life.

The importance of listening and speaking cannot be underestimated; it is imperative that they not be treated lightly in second and foreign language curricula.

As a focus of instruction, listening continues to be underrated in many programs, and some of the recommended methods and techniques, as well as some of the published materials, continue to be based on outdated models of language learning and teaching.

Course books give limited attention to listening comprehension, and very few specialized listening instructional materials are available.

Beyond this kind of language manipulation, students are not asked to "do" anything functional with the information.

Listening to myself listen - S. Arden Hill

A process altered by a listener's place and role in the listening, by his knowledge of the sound environment, and listening skill.

Part of the process of listening is selecting from the sonic environment the focus of our listening.

These sonic environments differ from what I was calling the 'actual' in the sense, taking the soundtrack as an example -the soundtrack exists on a piece of film and was developed as a composition.

" Arnheim would probably argue that the focal point of the listening should be on the composition's melody and movement.
