Practical discipline tactics for the Terrible Twos
Toddler discipline seems almost an oxymoron to any mom who's
tried to exert even minimal control over her tantruming 2-year-old.
But even at this nonverbal stage, a child can easily distinguish
between a parent's pleasure and displeasure. When she learns
not to touch the stove, it's because she's afraid of losing
your love -- not because she understands she'll get burned
(she won't understand cause and effect until age 5 or 6) --
but that's all you need to lay the groundwork for discipline.
Once you've childproofed your home from top to bottom and
set a few simple rules, follow these techniques to stem the
tide of your toddler's bad behavior: Is trying to pick the
perfect baby name giving you a headache? Our brand new Name-a-Day
alert makes it fun again - with fresh ideas delivered to your

Home > Family Fun Have you ever noticed how Mother
Nature makes such a perfect playmate? Just take the kids to
one of Hawaii's many beaches and you'll see them playing in
the sand, chasing waves to the point of exhaustion. You and
your children can explore fiery lava flows, vibrant green fern
forests and hidden waterfalls. The activities in Hawaii are
so invigorating, their little minds will be filled with big
wonder. The joy of snorkeling, the awe of watching a whale breach,
and the contagious smile that comes from a first surf lesson
-- these things will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Kids thrive in Hawaii's natural environments and love to try
new experiences. (Thanks to Mother Nature, they seem to sleep
better too.)

We have plenty of opportunities for you to spend some
time with your family while you enjoy the outdoors. NOC's Nantahala
Campus is a perfect playground to explore while other folks
in the family are rafting or kayaking. Often a parent or grandparent
stays behind with the littlest ones while the rest of family
is whitewater adventuring. Tikes and toddlers love to wade in
the calm pools of water at NOC, and our restaurants, shops,
and campus are fun places to wander around. Everyone in the
family can ride the train in the morning, and then in the afternoon,
when the older kids raft with mom or dad, an adult can stay
behind with younger kids (those under 60 pounds), and ride the
train back. Our mildest trips are perfect for young kids, who
love being included in the family's outings. Enjoy your day
with us on the Lower Pigeon, where the whole family can enjoy
a river excursion. The French Broad is a perfect family river,
