No matter the size of your family, there's plenty
of fun to be had throughout Placer County year round. Winter
months attract people from all over the world to enjoy skiing,
sleding, snowboarding, ice skating, cross country skiing,
snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Ski resorts have something for
everyone in your family whether you want to read a book in
the lodge by the fire or take on the mogels on the slopes.
Spring is the time to get out of the house and explore the
emerging new season. Rivers are raging and waterfalls cascading.
Wildflowers paint a spectrum of colors along hiking trails
and picnic areas. Throughout Placer County communities host
events designed for family fun.
At the popular Clara's Games area, young (and young at
heart) Expo visitors can participate in games enjoyed by generations
of Vermonters. Some of the activities, like hopscotch, checkers,
beanbags, cup and ball, and dominoes, are still popular today.
Others, such as Kitty Kitty Corner, Copenhagen, the dice and
bowl game, and graces, may be less familiar but just as much
fun. Twelve year old Clara Doty, of Tinmouth, Vermont, is the
inspriation for Clara's Games. In 1888, she kept a diary recording
the weather, her daily chores, and the games that she played.
While the day-to-day lives of children growing up in Vermont
have changed dramatically through the years, play provides a
link across generations. Diaries of 19th-century children like
Clara Doty and the oral traditions of the Abenaki have helped
us to understand and to recreate the fun activities of young

Flower Fun Using artificial flowers or non-poisonous
fresh flowers, give your child the opportunity to create a flower
arrangement. Lay the flowers out, and show the child how to
place one or two stems into an unbreakable vase. When the flower
arrangement is finished you can place it on display, and praise
your child's work and creativity. Fireworks Blow Art On a large
piece of white paper drip a few drops of colorful non-toxic
paint. Stories and activities that promote family literacy through
parent-child read-alongs and discussions. Fun things for preschoolers
to do within the web site are interactive stories and coloring
books. Halloween Fun Going to the pumpkin patch is always fun
for little ones!

in third grade, the class decided to put on a production of
"The Wizard of Oz". The news spread across the playground like
an electrical current, energizing every girl to ask, "Who will
play Dorothy?" The thought was thrilling and delicious, each
of us imaging ourselves with ruby shoes. I whispered to my friend
Jill, "Do you think I could be Dorothy?" I felt stupid for even
thinking I could be the star of a play. That Dorothy, like everyone
and everything else important was not like me. "Dim Sum for
Everyone!" takes place in Boston's Chinatown and shows a modern
family enjoying this unusual cuisine. "Kite-Flying" shows the
same family, driving a car, making and flying their own Chinese
dragon kite.
