Scroll down for the free gigantic JPEG images! I have
posted these for relatives of the Fitzhugh family to download,
print, and use--enjoy! He was granted a large land grant from
the King in Virginia just outside Washington, DC. To my knowledge,
no one is certain why William Fitzhugh did not use his family's
ancestral crest, but the most common theory is that he simply
made a mistake, rather than choosing it intentionally to insult
his relatives. More information about the Fitzhugh Family Crest
on can be found on Alex Fitzhugh's website. There are some additional
Fitzhugh photos/pictures on my family tree website. Above are
some samples of clothing types with the Fitzhugh Coat of Arms
(Fitzhugh Family Crest) on them from Zazzle. Above is the ancestral
coat of arms for the Fitzhugh family in America descended from
immigrant William Fitzhugh, one of the first millionaires in
America. The incorrect coat of arms, used by William Fitzhugh,
which in fact belonged to the Barons ...

Throughout the Dark Ages, as Rome slowly faded, the written
word was preserved by men of the Church. Documents such as the
Anglo-Saxon Chronicles were preserved within the sturdy walls
of the monasteries. These records have survived to this day
in order that we may study the history of this Anglo-Saxon surname
"Haddan". Professional historians have surveyed these records
and found the first record of the "Haddan" surname in Derbyshire
where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well
before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at
Hastings in 1066 A.D. The history of the Anglo-Saxons provides
and important backdrop to the history of the "Haddan" Family.
During their early development, the "Haddan" family was founded
in Derbyshire where they were recorded as a family of great
antiquity seated at Haddon with manor and estates in that shire.
They also branched to Dorset and Hampshire and their present
family seat is at Stonehouse. Distinguished members ...
The most important accessory of the arms is the crested
helm representing the family crest. Like the arms it has its
pre-heraldic history in the crests of the Greek helmets, the
wings, the wild boar's and bull's heads of Viking headpieces.
A little roundel of the arms of a Japanese house was often borne
as a crest in the Japanese helmet, stepped in a socket above
the middle of the brim. Crests, however, came slowly into use
in England,. Of the long roll of earls and barons sealing the
famous letter to the pope in 1301 only five show true crests
on their seals. Two of them are the earl of Lancaster and his
brother, each with a wyver crest like that of Quincy. The Berkeleys,
great patrons of abbeys, bore a mitre as their crest painted
with their arms, like crests being sometimes seen on the continent
where the wearer was an advocate of a bishopric or abbey. Before
passing from the crest let us note that in England the juncture
of crest and helm was commonly covered, especially ...

In 2000, I finally put together a family crest idea that
had been bouncing around my head for quite a few years (seen
above). Star Field background. This pic isn't the actual one
used. The origin comes from the old oriental philosophy called
the theory of Um-Yang, in chinese pronounciation - Yin-Yang.
Yin means dark and cold, while Yang means bright and hot. The
idea of Yin-Yang is supposed to be originated from the old Korean
philosophy of Samshin meaning three gods. A very old book called
Chuyok or Iching in chinese, which was written by (a) chinese
several thousands years ago, claims all objects and events in
the world are expressed by the movement of yin and yang. For
example, the moon is yin while the sun is yang; the earth is
yin and the heaven is yang; a woman is yin and a man is yang;
the night is yin and the day is yang; the winter is yin and
the summer is yang, etc. Yin and yang are relative. Therefore,
A can be yin with respect to B while A can also be yang with

Heraldry was brought to Ireland with the Anglo-Normans
in 1169 A.D. Means of differencing the basic heraldic symbol
came into use to show the structure of a family and so that
the symbols, although slightly modified, would show relationship
to the original arms and give individual identity. The first
Chief Herald of Ireland was Edward MacLysaght, who wrote several
books on Irish family history and heraldry. One's personal arms
can reflect the clan arms or be totally different, which is
unlike Scotland, where if one has a surname of one of the Scottish
clans or families, their arms are based upon those of the chief,
keeping the clan or family in order. Other heraldic literary
symbols are the boar (fierceness), stag (sovereignty), sword
(Nuadu or the sword of light and truth), serpents and lizards
(rebirth), hand (derbfine or true family of four generations),
and the red hand (story of a king who cut off his hand and flung
it to shore to be the first to touch land making his ...
Japanese Family
Crest Origin
The Japanese family crest, so-called Ka-mon was born
as a symbol of family and relatives in Japanese tradition and
climate. According to one of the oldest Japanese histories "Nihon-Shoki",
it said that Emperor Suiko used the pictures on his flags and
it marked as the beginning of family crest. In this case, it
seemed that the family crest was the Ka-mon rather than one
of the designs. Also, literature stated that Saneyoshi Tokudaiji
(who used Mokko-mon as his family crest) and Sanesue Saienji
(who used Tomoe-mon) were the first using their own Ka-mon on
their vehicle in the Heian-era (794-1192). By the time of early
Edo-era, only high class families used family crests. In the
middle of Edo-era, Ka-mon came to be more in the spotlight since
wealthy merchant Kinokuniya-Fumizaemon used his family crest
on "Kimono". Since then, the fundamental meanings of Ka-mon,
the clue of the family tree, the history of the family and each
family's ancestral roots and information has gotten ... |
