drome (SARS) virus pose a serious threat to the world?
This often gives scientists enough information to draw a rough
family tree. So drawing a good evolutionary tree requires picking
the right genes to look at. "This could make things strange
if you're trying to use this one protein to draw a family tree
for all the relatives of the SARS virus," Nick says. "In the
worst case, you would end up drawing different trees for each
part of the protein. Their study draws an extensive family tree,
placing SARS closer to the mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) and a
pig virus called HEV than to the infectious bronchitis virus
(IBV) found in birds. The grouping of SARS family members that
Nick and Pietro have come up with suggests that the virus has
remained flexible in the way it infiltrates cells and organ-isms.
This is not nec-essarily a case of it having evolved from one
basic pattern of infection to another; often two closest relatives
in the family tree behave differently. Someone ...
Present the two options to the students. 1. Draw a family
tree for your immediate and extended family. Include photographs
if available. Model this process by drawing an example of your
family tree. Once this is done students may work on a rough
draft. Ask students to complete as much of their family trees
at school as possible, based upon their own knowledge of family
history. Students can then take their family trees home and
elicit help from family members. 2. Conduct an oral history
interview of a friend or family member. Follow the procedure
entitled "Capturing the Past: How to Prepare and Conduct an
Oral History Interview."
Think about your family today. It may consist of you,
one or two adults who are your parents or guardians, and one
or more siblings. You may have an extended family including
one or more grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. All of
you share a family relationship. You might even have a family
member who has an interest in genealogy and who has mapped out
your family history, including a chart known as a family tree.
If you have seen such a tree, you know that each name represents
a person, and that some individuals on the tree are more closely
related than others. They seemed enough alike to be classified
as belonging to the same family. According to Mendeleev's model,
it should have belonged to the same chemical family as boron
and aluminum. It is the family tree of the elements.
We enjoy working with transplanted West Virginians and
their descendants, many of whom come to us from California,
Texas and Florida, as well as from Ohio and other places closer
to home. We have especially enjoyed the opportunity to meet
some of the researchers who normally work with us by mail most
of the year, but who have been able to visit the Library in
person during the summer months. Both new and repeat patrons
have found the recently extended library hours convenient. As
soon as additional staff are added to help us handle those new
hours, we will introduce them to you through the Archives and
History News. The operating programs required to use the CD-ROM
information have been installed on a computer in the Library
for use by the public. Some of the titles offer new information
for the Library collection, while others provide information
in existence elsewhere in the collection, but now available

Computer programs for genealogy- a comparison of useful
and frequently used features- presented by Gary Warner, SGGEE
database manager. This presentation is not intended to cover
specifics on all available genealogy programs, only the three
most frequently used programs that were indicated by a 2004
survey of SGGEE members. The total does not equal the number
of respondents, as some members use more than one program, and
there are also several other programs indicated as being used.
The three programs discussed below are also only the Windows
based programs noted in the survey, since only 5 of the 95 members
who responded to the survey indicated that they are using a
Macintosh, and all of those were using Reunion as their genealogy
program. If there is already a spouse shown, you can click on

Assessment (HRSPA) spent the day discussing plans for
a per-formance assessment initiative that would cover health
research in all 191 member countries of the WHO. Each year the
World Health Report is the main publication from WHO and the
initiative will also inform the World Health Report 2004. The

local education authorities and other recruitment organi-sations
talked to Education and PGCE students. During the morning, more
than 150 students attended a lecture by Barry Hancock, from
Redbridge LEA, on how to market yourself for your first teaching
job. The fair itself was very well attended, and the organ-isation
and venue were high-ly praised. Although many students had made
no defi-nite decisions as to where they would like to be employed,
the fair was con-sidered extremely useful. The WHO team met

of spam e-mail. Spam e-mail is generally defined as unwanted,
and usually commercial, e-mail. Unwanted is of course in the
mind of the receiver; you might not be interested in the world's
smallest digi-tal camera, but I might. None of us are interested
in a fraudulent Nigerian money laundering scheme. There is nothing
new about spam. These results are particularly troubling for
family historians. What are family historians to do since they
can't stop posting their e-mail addresses? And yes, there is
actually a Spam family tree online at <www.spam. Please provide
