N.C.---Director of Athletics Roachel Laney announced on Sunday evening that track
and field athlete Matt Stuart (Kingsport, Tenn.) is the recipient of the 2004
Brakefield Academic Award at Appalachian State University's All-Sports Banquet.
In her honor, an endowment was established to provide scholarship monies to the
Yosef Club by the late H.B. Maiden.

will join Rice University as associate athletic director for development in June.
At Rice, Pratapas will oversee all athletics department fundraising, including

and events such as golf tournaments and benefit dinners.
As associate
athletic director at Wake Forest, Pratapas was responsible for managing all athletic-related
fundraising, including capital campaigns, annual giving, endowment and special
