As a high school volleyball player you should be aware that the standard of play at college level is very high.

Remember that only the absolute top players will be approached with scholarship offers.

IMPORTANT: You are not breaching any NCAA or NAIA rules by using our recruiting service to apply for a volleyball scholarship.

It doesn't matter how good you are, to get recruited and be in line for a volleyball scholarship you need to tell the college coaches who you are and why you deserve to be recruited.

Not all athletic scholarships are full ride like football and basketball, so called "head count" sports; most are classed as "equivalency" sports, like men's volleyball .Put simply this means that coaches can" share" their allocation between a larger number of players.

Scholarships and student service expenditures comprise one of the great investments of Arizona State Athletics.

The academic advisors, computers, books, tutors and other services offered are critical to success in the classroom as each student-athlete grows personally and academically.

The challenge of the Sun Angel Foundation is to increase annual giving to a level which fully funds this investment while maintaining support of the every-day costs of the athletic department.

Gifts above the membership contributions for football and/or men's basketball seats are allocated to the Sun Angel Scholarship Fund, which directly offsets these costs.

The Sun Angel Scholarship Fund presents a unique way for you to invest in ASU: Create educational opportunity by donating and then participate in the investment by cheering for your favorite student-athletes and teams as they compete throughout the year.

The university awarded $5.3 million in merit-based academic scholarships last year, compared to $3.3 million in grants-in-aid to athletes during the same time period.

The Chronicle article points out a problem with the high visibility of athletic scholarships in comparison to academic merit awards: "Some academics say the gulf between athletic and academic merit awards on some campuses sends disturbing messages about the institutions' priorities.

When injury cut short Ken Hunt's football career with the Hurricanes, the University of Miami stood by him, allowing him to keep his athletic scholarship in exchange for assisting the team's coaches.

Hunt had to give up football after he accidentally was shot above the left ankle at a target range before his junior year.

Athletic scholarships cost the school more than $8 million annually, said Brian Cockerham, UM's assistant athletic director for development.

As part of UM's current $1 billion fund-raising campaign, the athletics department has set a goal of $63 million, with $20 million targeted for scholarships.

Speaking of bobblehead dolls, the Lowell (Mass.) Spinners made news last year for giving out Jack Kerouac bobblehead dolls.
