The Braves Scholarship Society is composed of Bradley University alumni and friends of the school's intercollegiate athletic program.

One of the most important benefits of becoming a Braves Scholarship Society donor is the satisfaction of knowing that your support is helping to make the Bradley athletic program one of the nation's best.

Individuals can truly experience membership in the Braves Athletics family by sponsoring a BU student-athlete and following their progress throughout their careers as Bradley Braves.

SPONSORSHIP Braves Scholarship Society sponsorship funds may be directed to any of Bradley's 14 NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic programs.

COMMITMENT In order to become a member of the Braves Scholarship Society, a mimimum gift of $15,000 per year (100 percent tax deductible) is required, plus seating benefit contribution requirements (80 percent tax deductible), for at least three years.

This is where you will find the big athletic programmes, and the scholarship budgets at these schools can be huge.

Under NCAA rules, Division III schools may not award financial aid on the basis of athletic ability.

Members of the NAIA and NJCAA are mainly smaller schools and do not recruit as vigorously as NCAA members.

If you are planning to participate in NCAA Division I or Division II athletics you must first be certified by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse.

The Application for Foreign Student-Athletes, the NCAA Guide for the College-bound Student Athlete, and the publication entitled Making Sure you are Eligible to Participate in College Sports can all be obtained directly from the Clearinghouse.

You can earn a scholarship after the first year, based on your contributions to the success of the UCLA team.

IF YOU ARE FROM A FOREIGN COUNTRY READ THIS: In order for UCLA to consider you for an athletic scholarship, you must be 21 years of age or younger when you begin college, based on the NCAA rules that UCLA follows.

It is unlikely that UCLA will have scholarships available if you have already started your senior year of high school unless you have strong academics and are being recruited by other top Division I colleges for your sport.

NIU Athletics houses 18 NCAA Division-I intercollegiate sports, over 400 student-athletes and is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

In order to remain competitive within the MAC and furnish the resources necessary to provide quality educational and athletic opportunities, the athletics department aggressively recruits fans, alumni and friends to contribute to the Huskie Club.

Annual Giving Within the Huskie Club, donors may elect to contribute to either the unrestricted fund or restrict their gift to a specific sport or program.

Monies received for the unrestricted fund support the general athletic scholarship fund, as well as the department's operating costs.

The focus of all Huron University scholarships is to assist full-time students in acquiring a quality education and reward specific students for academic and athletic performance.

Earned interest from these finds can vary year-to-year and consequently can impact the availability and/or amount of these awards; therefore, the awards may be adjusted so every student achieving these levels of academic performance can benefit from this scholarship program.

The academic scholarship program applies to all full-time students (12 credit hours or more) who have less than 100% of their tuition cost covered by other grants and scholarships.

The award will be made at the beginning of each Fall Quarter based on their high school cumulative GPA.

How do I start looking for contacts with coaches at college level and researching sports scholarships?

Also--I don't know if this is true of all sports, but college basketball coaches request the tape of an entire game (in addition to highlights) as anyone can usually cut and paste together a great highlight tape.

There is also a private college counselor over in Marin who specializes in helping seek out athletic scholarships, although I don't know much about her.
