The scholarship also acknowledges outstanding players and teams of the 1920's and 1930's who won championships and earned individual honors; citing the 1929 Pacific Coast Champions, led by All-American Ray Maloney, coached by Jimmy Needles, later the first coach of the U.S.A. Olympic Team.

This successful era established the University of San Francisco as a Pacific Coast power and national contender.
