Is Colgate Right for Me?
Hamilton, N.Y. (October 20, 2003) â¬"
Colgate University will begin awarding athletic scholarships in selected sports
and reduce the number of coach-supported athletes in each class.
The new
policy on athletic aid is one element of a strategic plan that will enhance key
areas of the university, including curriculum, residential life, faculty development,
community presence, and facilities.
â¬oeBy offering a limited
number of athletic scholarships, we are enabling our coaches to selectively recruit
that special blend of scholar-athlete â¬" the student who is currently
being wooed away by schools with equally high academic standards but with more
to offer in terms of scholarship aid,⬠said Dovidio.

The CSA story really began in 1981 when I started the nation's first ever recruiting
service designed to help high school athletes receive athletic scholarships for
college.
Today, CSA is recognized as the nation's largest and most respected
name in the world of college recruiting, having helped thousands of student-athletes
over the past 20 years fulfill their dreams of competing in the exciting world
of college athletics.
The pursuit of my dreams as a young man helped me
achieve an athletic scholarship and All-American honors as a college football
player, followed by a coaching career on the collegiate level.
I enjoyed
a successful career as a high school quarterback, but had the misfortune of playing
for a new high school that wasn't yet on the recruiting map.

the students who are living within the community where the business or corporation
is situated.

her last final exam in the spring, the starting pitcher for the Clark Atlanta
University softball team returned home to Houston under the impression that her
athletic scholarship would be intact in the fall.
NCAA guidelines stipulate
that the renewal and non-renewal letters, which notify students of the status
of their scholarships, must be postmarked by July 1.
Johnson said that
she was awarded her original scholarship after her father took a week off from
work and drove 13 hours to Atlanta to argue on her behalf.
Although NCAA
rules ultimately leave scholarship renewal to the university's discretion, Edmond
said that all 44 athletes got the awards they were originally slated to receive.

sex. The regulation implementing Title IX and the Department's
Intercollegiate Athletics Policy Interpretation published in 1979 -- both of which
followed publication for notice and the receipt, review, and consideration of
extensive comments -- specifically address intercollegiate athletics.
Under the Policy Interpretation, the equitable apportioning of a college's intercollegiate
athletics scholarship fund for the separate budgets of its men's and women's programs
-- which Title IX permits to be segregated -- requires that the total amounts
of scholarship aid made available to the two budgets are "substantially proportionate"
to the participation rates of male and female athletes.
A "disparity"
in awarding athletic financial assistance refers to the difference between the
aggregate amount of money athletes of one sex received in one year, and the amount
they would have received if their share of the entire annual budget for athletic
scholarships had been awarded in proportion to their participation rates.
